Careers at Secondmind
Senior machine learning researcher
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team at the forefront of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Secondmind Labs is a team of twelve researchers and engineers that provides internal expertise for our product, and explores innovative ideas that can improve our understanding of decision-making. In the past four years our team has published over 75 papers and filed 10 patents. Our main areas of expertise are probabilistic modelling and Bayesian optimisation.
You will have the opportunity to devise novel solutions to probabilistic modelling challenges, with the aim of publishing at leading machine learning conferences. You'll have the opportunity to integrate your research directly into our products.
What will you be responsible for?
As a member of Secondmind’s Probabilistic Modelling team, you will be expected to develop your own research program, with a view to developing new tools and techniques. In addition to conducting novel research, you will also be expected to contribute to customer projects, assisting in the application of cutting edge machine learning research to real world problems. Finally, this position is also an opportunity to take an active role in the development of our open source libraries GPflow, GPflux and Trieste.
What skills, experience, and qualifications do you need to succeed in this role?
You will hold a PhD in a technical field, or have an equivalent level of experience, having published work in leading machine learning conferences.
A strong background in probabilistic modelling is essential, along with experience in numerical programming (Python/NumPy/Tensorflow/PyTorch). Experience in any of the fields of Gaussian processes, variational inference, deep learning, and Bayesian optimisation are desirable but not essential.
You will be keen to work as part of a team, to review documents, designs and code, and to provide constructive feedback. You have a passion to continuously develop your own machine learning and research skills, and to help others to improve theirs.
