About Secondmind

Secondmind is the Optimization Engine for the software-defined vehicle. From reducing design simulation time and calibration overhead, to continuously improving energy efficiency and performance throughout the vehicle lifecycle, our cloud-native optimization solutions give engineers the tools and confidence to re-imagine the design, development and experience of driving, and accelerate the transition to carbon-neutral mobility. We exist to help automotive innovators design better cars faster, and achieve greater sustainability through machine learning.

About the role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist to join our team. This is an opportunity to leverage your skills in machine learning, coding, and MLOps to deliver impactful projects directly contributing to Secondmind's mission. You'll be part of a cross-functional team to drive innovation and solve complex customer problems using machine learning techniques.

This role is perfect for someone who not only has technical expertise but also the ability to abstract technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, who is capable of working independently and able to quickly adapt to new challenges with a forward-thinking approach.

What will you be responsible for?

- Function as an integral member of the development squad, capable of undertaking machine learning engineering and data science tasks with minimal supervision.

- Apply advanced machine learning techniques and MLOps practices to develop scalable, efficient solutions, which solve real customer problems.

- Write code which forms part of the core ML components used within the production code base.

- Liaise with both internal and external non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms and making the connection to the impact on the end user.

- Contribute to deployment and post-deployment support of the solutions.

What skills, experience, and qualifications do you need to succeed in this role?

- Demonstrable experience in applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems.

- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong coding skills.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

- Can proactively and effectively use the expertise of those around them in order to deliver solutions which meet the partially articulated requirements.

- Strong foundational skills in machine learning and software engineering.

- A minimum of a few years of commercial experience in a relevant field, with a track record of successful project delivery in a collaborative environment.

- Proficient in Python and experience with TensorFlow, ideally with some exposure to Gaussian Processes (GPs), GPflow, Bayesian Optimization (BO), and/or Trieste.

- Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools.

- Experience or knowledge in the automotive or related sectors.

- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, with a proven record of pushing the boundaries of what a team can achieve.
