About the Role

With a strong mandate to automate where possible, we are looking for an exceptional IT Operations engineer to strengthen our team. Responsibilities will include migrating our legacy systems to orchestrated systems, building and managing cloud (GCP) and self-hosted servers, desktops and laptops to ensure smooth and secure operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automate and systemise infrastructure management using Terraform, Puppet and scripting (Python, Bash, and Powershell)
  • Design, develop and maintain infrastructure to serve staff and internal research activities
  • Provide support with employee IT issues
  • Acquire and provision equipment for all levels of the company (workstations, servers, networking, teleconferencing, etc)
  • Work with Platform Operations team to ensure that monitoring and alerting is place around critical systems
  • Protect infrastructure and data from cyber threats
  • Manage authentication, authorization and accounting
  • Define new IT processes and policies where required

Skills and Expertise:

  • Expertise in Linux, on the server and desktop
  • Significant working knowledge of MacOS and/or Windows in a managed environment, ideally utilising an MDM such as Jamf
  • Expertise with cloud services (ie AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience administrating networks, preferably with Juniper switching, routing plus fortinet firewalling
  • Ability to automate processes using modern tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Puppet) and scripting, ideally Python.
  • Knowledge about cyber security and the mindset to continuously stay vigilant.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with enterprise storage systems (NAS, SAN)
  • Experience with SIEM and EDR tools
  • Some exposure to ISO 27001
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
